Tiger Sharks swimmers win big at Pentathlon

Thirty-three swimmers from Greater Manchester YMCA Tiger Sharks opened the 2009-2010 short course swim season by competing in an Invitational Pentathlon on October 10, 2009 hosted by the YMCA of Greater Nashua Storm. Swimmers who competed in five events in their age group were eligible to receive individual recognition based on lowest total combined time.

In the 13–14 year old age group, Eva Childers of Henniker took first place for lowest total combined time among female swimmers. Eva placed first in four events and second in one event. Greg Levine of Bedford placed second among male swimmers for lowest total combined time. Greg took first place in the 100 Fly and the 200 I.M. Elliot Chun of Bedford also had a strong meet, achieving personal best times in each of his five events. Chandler Tramposch and Gautham Upadrasta of Bedford and Laura Anderson of Weare also achieved personal best times.

In the 11-12 age group, Keelin Kendall of Goffstown placed third in the 50 Breaststroke and Rachel Soldado of Manchester placed second in the 50 Fly among female swimmers. Hendrick Suwirjo of Derry placed fourth both the 100 I.M. and the 50 Fly among male swimmers. Personal best times were recorded by Kendall, Soldado, Suwirjo, as well as Shayna Boisvert, Eileen Burke and Benjamin Cassily and Stefan Jelev, all of Manchester and Connor and Niles Lowe of Derry.

In the 9-10 group, Nina Levine of Bedford captured first place for lowest total combined time. Nina placed first in each of her five individual events, achieving personal best times in the 50 Fly, the 50 Breaststroke and the 50 Freestyle. Gordon Suwirjo of Derry placed third in the 100 I.M. and fifth in the 50 Fly. Matt Bisson, Georgia and Katherine Dubois all of Manchester, Howard dePaiva and Ella Lang of Bedford, Keara Kendall of Goffstown and Anita Childers of Henniker and Abbigail Young of New Boston each achieved personal best times.

In the 8 & under girls age group, Vivien Merryfield of Mont Vernon took second place and Maeve Hunt of Weare captured first place in the lowest total combined time category. Hunt placed first in four events and second in one event, Merryfield placed second in the 25 Breaststroke and the 100 I.M., knocking four seconds off her previous best time. Sophie Cassily of Manchester placed third in the 25 Fly. Among the boys, Brandon Campbell of Goffstown grabbed second place in the 25 Free and Julian Chun of Bedford took fourth in the 25 Fly. Swimmers achieving personal best times include Hunt, Merrifield, Cassily, Campbell and Chun, as well as Dillon Campbell of Goffstown, Maggie Cassily of Manchester and Dwight Childers of Henniker.
